Johnstown Historical Society

Our mission is to discover, collect, preserve and display historical data, buildings and items relating to the history of the Johnstown, New York area.

Drumm House

Sir William Johnson built the Drumm House in 1763. The building was the home of Edward Wall, schoolmaster of the first free school in New York State. Exhibits housed in the Drumm House cover 300 years of local history. The Drumm House is located at the corner of Green and North William Streets in Johnstown.

Historical Society Museum

The Harris home was purchased in 1959 to serve as the Society's headquarters with an Assembly Room and a Social Room. It also houses the Museum, Archives and Library. Special exhibits include one dedicated to Elizabeth Cady Stanton and another dedicated to those who served in the United State Military

James Burk Inn

The original structure was built in 1765 by Sir William Johnstown for his surveyor Robert Picken. The building was relocated to its present location in 1788 and opened as the James Burk Inn. In 2014 the Society received title from the Johnstown Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution

ABOUT US

Today, the Johnstown Historical Society is a small but dedicated group of individuals who work to preserve three buildings, the artifacts in those buildings, and the documents in its library.
